Weaving “everyday” values into “big day” plans.
For those who do not know me (yet), I am passionate about a few key things: social justice issues (such as human trafficking, gender violence against women and girls), travel (both on my own and with my kids), and photography. A couple of years ago, I began to try to weave these three threads together in some creative ways. The CHP Giving Back program was the first step of weaving activism into my “job.”
Discovering the Black Sheep Bride community was like discovering a gold mine. I felt like I found my people – a growing group of wedding industry vendors committed to giving back and doing good with their businesses. But I have always wanted to take it a step forward and work WITH my clients to help them find creative, meaningful and relevant ways to make their wedding about more than the flowers and decor and DJ. I know there are couples all over this nation, and the world, who deeply value giving back to their community and/or world in their personal lives…. why not fuse that vision with their “big day” and make a huge difference for good along the way?!
Every October, there is a community of bloggers who commit to write/blog/publish every single day for 31 days. For some its for fun, for others, it is part of their growing journey as writers and communicators. For others, like me, its discipline. I have wanted to participate in the 31Days endeavor for the last few years but never could come up with a theme and plan in time.
So this year, even though I am one day behind, I decided to jump in and go for it! The idea of a series around socially conscious wedding planning had been swirling in my mind for a while, and I decided to organized it alphabetically.
So please join me! I am very excited to explore and introduce to you some really innovative and amazing people, products, companies, services and stories… all about giving back and doing good with your wedding planning choices and decisions!
The great news is that you don’t have to sacrifice quality and creativity for conscious and ethical choices anymore! You can have the wedding of your dreams AND do a world of good at the same time. That, my friends, is what you call a no-brainer.
READY? Let’s do this.
